GMA Construction Group is seeking a results-driven corporate construction controller to oversee our financial operations. This candidate will work directly with the CFO to oversee financial reporting, working with auditors, month end close, and other accounting responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Up to date with trends in the industry, as well as overall macroeconomic influences. You will monitor all the factors that might affect building work, including the aforementioned factors, along with employment levels and inflation and interest rates.

 

Job Functions:

I. Construction Controller of finance

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist management with important financial decisions.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of GMA Construction Group.
  • Supervise employees who work under the controller in preparing financial reports and budgets.
  • Monitor GMA’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Keep up to date on the financial market to understand how to maximize profits and find new expansion areas.
  • Understand the financials of the company in order to meet legal requirements and keep the financial state in good standing.
  • Improve and streamline the accounting system and its operations.
  • Directly execute all payroll functions
  • Directly do all bank reconciliations
  • Directly execute cash management

II. Financial Reporting

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions of GMA and will report to the CFO.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies
  • Oversees the general accounting function alongside the president, which includes inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, and balance sheet management.
  • As needed, meet with the company’s bankers and bonding company to review financial results and forecasts.

III. Health / Retirement

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the review and procurement of the business and health insurance programs for all entities
  • Set up employee benefits records in the system and perform the necessary calculations.
  • Monitor/negotiate all company insurance policies monthly
  • Lead all yearly insurance audits to ensure accuracy of the insurance company’s findings
  • Assist in the administration of the JCP 401(k) plan and other employee benefits
  • Calculates and reconciles amounts due to the respective vendor and distributes payments.
  • Track employee absences and benefit days balances, and alerts managers and supervisors of discrepancies.

IV. Day to Day Overview

Provide oversight for project accountants that includes:

  • Reviewing AIA Pay Applications for completion accuracy

V. Week to Week Overview

Complete Weekly Financial Report for CEO

  • Cash on the Streets
  • Job Profitability
  • AR/AP Reports
  • Cash Balance Reports for all active company bank accounts
  • Prepare weekly check run reports for CEO’s review and approval
  • Process checks for signature once approved

VI. Month to Month Overview

  • Monthly corporate reconciliations

VII. Year End

  • Final Reconciliation of P& L, Balance Sheet, and WIP reports
  • Year End reconciliations across at the corporate and project level

Training and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in some area of business, economics, finance, accounting or management.
  • Certified Public Accountant credential builds credibility.
  • Well-versed in soft business skills such as time-management, interpersonal communications, leadership, team building, business writing and project management.
  • Expert level knowledge of QuickBooks
