Our client, a distinguished construction and engineering design firm, is looking for a Jr. Lighting Designer to join their talented team on a direct hire basis. The primary focus of this role is to develop exceptional architectural lighting designs across a broad spectrum of projects, achieved through effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and a commitment to exceeding client expectations. Efficiency is key to success in this role. Top-performing designers demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of tools used to visualize, document, and communicate design concepts, including AGi32, Autodesk Revit, Rhinoceros, ALFA, Climate Studio, Grasshopper, Bluebeam, Photoshop, InDesign, and Excel. Hourly pay is $33.65 - $36.00. This role is onsite/hybrid in Monrovia, CA.

Projects span a variety of sectors, including commercial spaces, residential properties, healthcare facilities, hospitality venues, higher education institutions, and museums or galleries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with senior designers to develop innovative lighting concepts and designs across a diverse portfolio of projects.
  • Assess project needs and communicate effectively with direct managers or supervisors to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Provide regular updates to supervisors regarding project status, workload, and any emerging issues.
  • Participate in Mosaic workload projection meetings to align resource planning with project timelines.
  • Understand assigned tasks thoroughly and adhere to established schedules and deadlines.
  • Assist in the creation of detailed lighting plans, layouts, and specifications tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on lighting technologies, products, and emerging industry trends.
  • Contribute to the preparation of compelling presentations and supporting documentation for project proposals and reviews.
  • Coordinate closely with the design team to integrate lighting concepts seamlessly into the overall project framework.
  • Attend client meetings to present, discuss, and refine lighting designs based on project-specific objectives and feedback.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures and best practices.
  • Support the implementation of lighting installations, ensuring alignment with design intent and project standards.
  • Attend construction site walkthroughs and project team meetings to monitor progress and resolve on-site concerns.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) requirements.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance studio processes, workflows, and project outcomes.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two to three years of professional experience in lighting design, supported by a strong portfolio across diverse project types.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable and energy-efficient lighting practices is required.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard lighting design software, including AGi32, Autodesk Revit, Rhinoceros, ALFA, Climate Studio, and Grasshopper.
  • Hands-on experience with Revit and AGi32 is required.
  • Strong visual and spatial awareness with a keen eye for design detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in team environments.
  • Proactive attitude with a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and evolving design trends.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools, such as Bluebeam, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic understanding of building codes, lighting regulations, and general knowledge of electrical systems relevant to lighting design.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
  • Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
