Senior Telecommunications/Network Engineer Join us as a Senior Telecommunications/Network Engineer at National Grid . Job Purpose As a Senior Engineer, your responsibilities include evaluating emerging technologies, participating in equipment specification and selection, and designing end-to-end communication solutions, including validation and testing of advanced systems. You will collaborate with various engineering departments to provide communication solutions and develop long-term telecom network strategies supporting substations, distribution controls, meters, and mobile devices. Key Responsibilities Support the Capital Delivery Construction process for substation projects. Contribute to innovation and modernization initiatives for our energy infrastructure. Create and secure approval for special projects, designs, analyses, investigations, and training related to new technologies. Maintain and develop transmission and distribution communication technologies. Design and deploy wireless network initiatives, including Field Area Networks (FAN), and oversee their monitoring and control systems. Collaborate with IT and external partners to develop comprehensive communication solutions. Participate in upgrading our SONET fiber core network and expanding it to reach more facilities. Build relationships with industry peers and regulators to stay abreast of technological innovations. Support storm restoration efforts alongside normal duties. Supervisory/Interpersonal Skills Required Ability to lead and supervise project or virtual teams to achieve objectives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications/Network Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited institution, with at least 6 years of relevant experience. Experience in planning and operating communication systems using advanced analytics, emerging technologies, and industry trends. Expertise in IP networking, fiber optics, microwave systems, leased services, RF data communications, LTE networks, and legacy TDM systems. Ability to develop industry relationships and work with regulators. Experience with hardware programming, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and making presentations. Willingness to work overtime, holidays, nights, weekends, and travel overnight as needed. Additional Information Salary range: $115,000 - $135,000.
