Job Description

The Technology Specialist is an integral part of the school's operational team and is responsible for managing the technical systems that support learning and security. This role reports directly to the Head of Technology and works closely with faculty, staff, and students. The Technology Specialist oversees the Blackbaud Learning Management System, AP Testing administration, and access control and video surveillance systems, providing technical support and training as needed. The goal of the Technology Specialist is to ensure seamless integration and performance of these systems, maintaining a secure and reliable IT environment that enhances the educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize the Blackbaud Learning Management System, ensuring seamless operation and enhancing user experience for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Oversee all aspects of AP Testing administration, including technical setup, compliance with College Board protocols, and coordination with educational staff to ensure smooth testing processes.
  • Administer and maintain access control and video surveillance systems, ensuring secure management of permissions and alignment with the school's security policies and standards.
  • Manage Chromebook devices, including shared devices, one-to-one devices, and automated checkout systems related to student devices, ensuring they are properly configured, maintained, and readily available for educational use.
  • Identify, research, and implement technological solutions to improve the school's IT infrastructure, including network connectivity, hardware, and software systems related to learning and security.
  • Provide training and technical support to faculty, staff, and students, fostering a culture of technological proficiency and confidence across all constituencies.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to ensure proper maintenance of servers, backups, and disaster recovery procedures, contributing to a secure and reliable IT environment that supports the school's strategic vision.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred but not required; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in system administration, preferably with Blackbaud LMS or similar platforms.
  • Experience with AP Testing technology setup and administration.
  • Familiarity with access control and video surveillance systems.
  • Proven experience in managing Chromebook devices, including shared devices, one-to-one devices, and automated checkout systems related to student devices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all the school's constituents while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding knowledge of network connectivity, hardware, and software systems, as well as troubleshooting technical issues efficiently.
  • Experience in providing training and technical support to non-technical staff and students.
  • A deep appreciation for and understanding of educational technology and its role in enhancing learning environments.

About SAAS

St. Anselm's Abbey School is an independent, Catholic, Benedictine school serving academically motivated young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded in 1942 by Benedictine monks, the school is located on the 40-acre grounds of St. Anselm's Abbey in Northeast Washington. St. Anselm's serves approximately 230 students and employs over 60 faculty and staff.
